JevInstincts

nothing, absolutely nothing - dangLottery tickets. Like a lot of people I pick up the occasional ticket. Each time I spend my dollar I say a little prayer - you know the one, "Dear Lord let me be a winner. I'll be good. Amen."

My winning ticket was on the counter, just waiting for the draw to confirm my new found wealth. Just before seven (6/49 actually. Canadians will get this, it's the big lottery here) a radio friendly voice came over the TV going on about tonight's draw, blah blah blah. I pick up my lucky stub, and call over to my wife. "Honey, say a little prayer will you?"

"Are you serious? You're asking God to make your ticket a winner?"

"Yeah."

"Unbelievable. Jevon, don't you think God has more important things to do other than listen to such pathetic prayers?"

I was about to reply that God's a pretty all encompassing feller, and I'm sure he could fit my humble request into his busy day. I decided that I'd tell my wife she was right. Although secretly I was still holding out hope that God would come through for me on the side.

To prove my wife's point my lucky ticket was worth (after taxes) NOTHING!

I got to thinking - (uh oh) and I started imaging what God's day must be like on draw day. He must have had his IT angels set up a special lottery prayer answering service. "All Angels are currently busy assisting other losers. Please repeat your prayer, or go away and try again when you have a real reason to bother God."

Wouldn't it be great if once, just once God actually answered people's prayers on draw day. I can see it now. All across the nation me and thousands and thousands of people would be eagerly waiting for a series of coloured balls to determine our future. All over the land as each little numbered ball fell, people's faces would light up as they began to realize what was happening. A winner. Holy cow (thank you God!) I've won. I have all the numbers. I'd take my winning ticket in to be validated. Along with thousands and thousands of other winners. I'd get my dollar back.

I'm buying another ticket in a week or so, and I'll let God look after the big stuff thank you very much.
