My feet are sore, my back aches, and I wear glasses (okay, two out of three. My eye problems have nothing to do with age, so much as a degenerative corneal condition - I wish it was age). Anyway, what got this whole "time to leave Never Never Land" train of thought chugging along was the realization that my children are going to need a role model to look up to, and emulating dad burping the alphabet, and being able to fart on command may not necesarily be the life skills I want to leave as my legacy. Mostly because it's too hard to teach the fart skill. Then it dawned on me, I can't do anything about getting old (no kidding?), but I can age with dignity and pride. I am what I am, and I am said Sam I am, or something like that. I may never grow up, or be a Toys "R" Us kid, but I can still try and leave a truly lasting legacy. I may not be able to teach my kids to fart on command, but I can pass (take the pun) along the family recipe for a killer Chili and they can figure the rest out for themselves. After all, my wife said it best the other night over a bowl of the family treasure. "Come on kids, eat up. Don't you want to be like daddy?" Life. It keeps going, and going and going. Jevster |
