Three Crosses(©1995 Benson)

three crosses1: I Should Have Known 2: Just Another Sign Of The Times 3: This Is Not My Home 4: God's House 5: Mission Bell 6: Calvary 7: Mary's Song 8: Seven Days 9: Devil Ain't Got No Hold On Me 10: Never Cease To Amaze Me 11: Some Untitled Song

Ah, it's been a long time since I've pulled this off the shelf and given it a few spins. The debut of Three Crosses was never my favourite of their trilogy of albums - but listening to it again, it holds up pretty well. It's a guilty pleasure to some degree, and as heavy handed in the preachy department as I've come across, but it can all be easily forgiven as it's done with such eagerness.

The songs themselves benefit from strong production, great musicianship, and good old fashioned rock sensibilities.

While not a great album, it was a pretty good start, and they'd only get better.

Jefferson Street (©1996 Benson)

jefferson street 1: Michelangelo 2: The Stone Was Rolled Away 3: Welcome To The Jesus Movement 4: Bring Me To My Knees 5: Blind Faith 6: Heal My Heart 7: Getting Ready (For The End Of The World) 8: Strangers In The House Of The Lord 9: What Kind Of Love 10: We've Got To Come Together

Another great album. These guys are a really good rock band. I pull this one out once in a while and crank it up. They rock they roll and they make you think (okay they made me think, or if not think at least go hmmm). The centre piece in my opinion is "The Stone Was Rolled Away". Although there's no shortage of good tunes on this one.

"Blind Faith" is great with it's bob your head riffs, as is "Strangers in the House of the Lord". Funny how some of this reminds me of Brother Cane (another very underrated band),

All in all great tunes from a very under appreciated band.

Skinny Flowers (©1998 Benson)

three crosses 1: Maybe Tonight 2: Maggie's Prayer 3: Sacrifice 4: I Have Never Seen The Wind 5: You Make It Easy To Fall In Love 6: April And Me 7: It's Kooky 8: Fast Food Religion 9: Seeds Of Sorrow 10: Waitress Song 11: Monday Mornings 12: Bag Of Creation 13: Sometimes I Still Feel Alone 14: Get Down 15: Rise Up From The Ashes 16: I've Been Called

This a solid album of southern flavoured rock, with a solid positive message. Okay, so lyrically the band is preachy, so what. They are one of those "Christian" bands, so I'll cut them some slack. I've actually been listening to a lot of this religious music lately, and it's pretty good stuff.  This  album has some great tracks. The album starts with a cooker "Maybe Tonight" and doesn't look back.

This would be the last from the band, other than a best of collection. Which was too bad, as these guys were just starting to hit their stride.
